What’s your promise?

Walk to work instead of taking a car? Buy only Fairtrade products where they’re available?  Campaign for climate justice for poor countries? Pray for the upcoming climate negotiations?

If you could do one thing to help create a more sustainable earth where we’d eradicated extreme poverty, what would that one thing be? That’s the question Micah Challenge UK is posing in its “What’s your promise?” campaign.

Micah Challenge UK is supported by Christian Aid, CCOW, Tearfund, Toybox, World Vision and a wide range of other charities, denominations, churches and individuals. They’re all coming together to ask Christians in this country  to commit to a life that remembers those in poverty — and then to promise to act or pray in one specific area. The promises may be large or small: the point is that they’re a sign of our wider commitment. And given that environmental degradation is a vital threat to all of us, especially those in poverty, environmental prayers and promises are very welcome!

You can promise online (and browse promises by others). You can also download a form to gather promises in your church. Whichever you choose, you’ll be joining with hundreds of people who have already made their promise, creating a wave of Christian prayer and action.

And then, on 10/10/10, millions of Christians in the over 40 countries where Micah Challenge campaigns are present will be bringing those promises together before God, asking God to use them to transform our world. You can join in the prayer, too: download it here. There will even be an opportunity to join in delivering the promises made in your area to your MP!

So what’s your promise?
